Mr Martin begins preaching in the book of 1 Timothy with the call to leadership and the purpose of Paul’s letter to Timothy. The church is the “pillar and buttress of truth” because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The mission of the church is not only the preservation of the church but to have a strategic vision for the further progress of God’s Kingdom.
As we continue this week in 1 Timothy, Paul just finished giving us a glimpse of his personal testimony, finishing it with this doxology: “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Jonathan Edwards wrote of this verse: “As I read the words, there came into my soul and was as it were diffused through it, a sense of the glory of the Divine Being; a new sense quite different from anything I ever experienced before.” Though we cannot define the undefinable we are going to look at Who this King eternal, immortal, invisible, only wise God is and what He has done for us.
